Cempedak orange smoothie

What is cempedak? And how does cempedak taste?

A tree species similar to the jackfruit is called cempedak. However, when people use the term "cempedak," they frequently refer to the fruit which has an odd, spiky appearance.

Malaysia, Indonesia, Southern Thailand, and Papua New Guinea are countries that are particularly known for this cempedak fruit. While jackfruit is enormous and oval in shape, cempedak is tubular and roughly the size of a rugby ball that has been compressed. Jackfruit and cempedak are quite similar to each other. When these fruits are fully mature, their flesh has similar hues that range from light yellow to slightly orange. However, cempedak flesh is more fibrous, fragrant, and slightly sweeter than jackfruit. Cempedak has a light pineapple flavour with a tinge of banana. But what distinguishes a ripe cempedak from a jackfruit is its wonderful honey nectar flavour.

In Bahasa Melayu, jackfruit is referred as as nangka in Malaysia. What is the English name for cempedak? Unless you want to give it, a scientific name and call it "Artocarpus integer," there is no English name for this fruit. I still have the memory of my hubby telling me about his oral English SPM external exam experience. The examiner enquired about the fruit's name. He admitted to the examiner that he was unaware of the fruit's English name. But the Cempedak was called by the locals. This is the name of the fruit.

WHAT ADVANTAGES DO SMOOTHIES MADE WITH CEMPEDAK HAVE?

Cempedak has a potent aroma and great nutritional value. Its seeds, peel, leaves, and bark are also healthy, in addition to the pulp. Ascorbic acid, enzymes, bioflavonoids, minerals, and vitamins are present in reasonable amounts. It helps maintain healthy eyes, which also helps in hydrating the intestines and acting as laxatives, boosts immunity, lowers blood cholesterol, and other benefits. Cempedak is also referred to as a fruit that is rich with treasures.

WHAT IS A GOOD MATCH FOR CEMPEDAK SMOOTHIE?

Because cempedak fruit has a sweet, intense flavour, it was combined with citrus orange juice and yogurt to create a tropical flavour. Orange juice can bring a tropical citrus punch to the smoothie.

IS IT NECESSARY TO DILUTE THE CEMPEDAK SMOOTHIE WITH WATER?

Smoothies typically contain fibre since the pulp is kept in them and gives them a much thicker consistency. As you add more ingredients, the consistency becomes thicker. If you want to make the smoothies thinner, you can use oranges instead of milk or water. Almost the entire orange is liquid. They are not like most fruits, which when combined into a smoothie contribute fibre and substance. When you turn on the blender, the oranges will instantly liquefy and change to a watery consistency.  Know that adding an orange to a smoothie on the fly is more like adding water than anything else. The orange flavour is at least preferable to water.

HOW TO EAT CEMPEDAK?

If you want to eat the bite-sized nuggets, just cut open the fruit. Even though some folks prefer their fruit battered and deep-fried into fritters. Additionally, the seeds can be boiled and eaten like tiny potatoes. I am going to make a smoothie with cempedak fruit today.  Combine jackfruit and orange in this tropical smoothie for a taste of paradise.

INGREDIENTS

500G cempedak flesh

2 cups fresh-squeezed orange juice, add more according to individual preference

½ cup yogurt

METHODS

1. Mix it all in a blender with the other ingredients until it is smooth. If you would like it to be sweeter, you can add some honey.

2. Pour into two big glasses or jars and serve.

I hope this tropical smoothie brightens your mood as much as it brightened mine.

Dong Po Rou (东坡肉)

Dong Po Rou (东坡肉) – wine braised pork belly. It’s rich and savoury, tender that melts into your mouth. Traditionally, the pork belly is pan-fried before being braised or stewed for one to one and a half hours on low heat. Some of the recipes even call for steaming for an additional half an hour after stewing. It is very time-consuming. But as you are aware, I enjoy making recipes simpler without compromising the taste. You, too, I'm sure. Therefore, I skipped the pan-frying step and proceeded directly to braising the pork after blanching it, and then continued to cook with a pressure cooker. Don't worry; the dish's flavour remains unaffected. I'm hoping this simplified method may come in handy for your regular cooking. Trim off the edges of the pork and cut it into 3x3 cubes. Tie cooking twine around each cube. This will assist the cubes in keeping their form while cooking. If the pork that you bought is at the mid portion of the belly is ideal, there is a nice bala...

Canned braised pork belly (罐头扣肉)

A must-have dish for the Lunar New Year is steamed braised pork ( 扣肉 ). Some people enjoy making braised pork with yam, while others prefer to use preserved veggies. The key to making braised pork is to boil the meat first, then deep-fry it, and finally steam it. The sauces are the key to enhancing the flavour of the braised pork with either yam or preserved veggies. Of course, choosing pork that is half-fat and lean pork belly tastes the best is also crucial.   You can choose how thinly you want the pork slices. I sliced my pork to a thinness of 10 to 15 mm thinness.  Another crucial tip is to just use wine and no water when preparing the braised pork. I'm using Shaoxing wine, and it's been proven that the more wine you use, the tastier and more fragrant the meat will be and that the meat will remain fragrant after stewing. As I mentioned, this braised pork needs to boil first, then be deep-fried.  For those who find frying meat is very troublesome , you can w...

Ginkgo Bean Curd and Barley Sugar dessert (白果腐竹薏米糖水)

Do you miss this delicacy of Ginkgo Bean Curd and Barley Sugar dessert? When did you most recently enjoy or make it? Ginkgo, commonly known as ginkgo. It is very popular when used to cook bean curd sheets. I went to a dessert house two days ago. The waitress was serving this dessert to a young lady who was sitting next to me. I overheard that lady comment about that dessert is different from other dessert houses. So, I give it a go. I am not sure how it was different from other dessert houses. But it is different from what I had before. It is creamy, smooth, and rich in flavour. So, I am going to copycat this, and my family loves it so much. Especially youngsters who do not like any small chunks to chew on with liquid dessert. This dessert can be cooked on the stove or pressure cooker. There's a catch, though: Yuba sheets or bean curd sheet, also known as Fu Chuk, come in a variety of forms.   If you opt for making this dessert over a stove, need to choose the kind that disso...
